
Submission Guidelines
Judging:
All submission will be judged by a panel of individual from our artistic community consisting of professionals from private and public galleries, nationally known artists and art dealers.
The art work delivered to the Art Centre for exhibiting must be representative of the submission received from the artist, for which the exhibition was awarded. The artwork must be the same works of art and can not be supplement, altered or replaced without prior consent by the Art Centre. All artwork must be received at least three (3) weeks prior to the opening of the exhibition.
Presentation: The Artist, in consultation with the Art Centre, will assume responsibility for framing the artworks for the exhibition. All artworks must be properly framed and ready to be installed (where applicable).
Fees: The applicant will pay a submission fee of 20.00 (non-refundable). The Art Centre will pay an exhibition on fee of $1000 to the first place winner and a fee of $250 for the 2nd and 3rd place winners. The award includes the use of photographs of the artworks for publicity purposes connected with the exhibition only.
Documentation: The artist will provide biographical information and a list of works with titles, mediums, support, size, and valuation (which must include applicable taxes) for insurance purposes to the Art Centre at least three (2) weeks before the opening date of the exhibition.
Insurance: The Art Centre or its agents will insure the full value of the artworks during the dates specified for the exhibition, including day prior to the start of the exhibition when hanging of the show will take place and the day following the show when artworks is taken down from the display. These days will be determined prior to the exhibition and agreed upon by the Artist and the Art Centre in advance.
Promotion: The Art Centre will arrange announcements of the exhibition as it may consider appropriate. The Art Centre will sponsor an opening or closing during the exhibition, as agreed upon with the Artist. The Art Centre will send notices in the form of a newsletter to the Art Centre's regular mailing list of members, press releases, public service announcements, and notices to community groups. Personal invitations announcing the event will be produced and sent out, in conjunction with the Artist. The Artist agrees to be present for the opening, a "meet the artist discussion", or other presentations about the exhibition as agreed upon by both parties.
Installation: The Art Centre will be responsible for the hanging and displaying of the artworks, unless previous arrangements have been made. The Art Centre will take into consideration any requests by the Artist in regards to layout of the exhibition.
Copyright:The Art Centre will not permit reproductions of the artwork in the exhibition for purposes of sales, rental, loan, or distribution of any kind without the written permission of the Artist.
Sales: The Art Centre will take a 30% commission of sales of exhibited artworks while they are on display at the Art Centre. The Artist will include the applicable sales tax in the sale price of the artworks submitted. The Art Centre will be responsible for collecting the taxes. The Artist must advise the Art Centre if sales tax has been added to the original price.
Third-party: If the Art Centre and another party sponsor the exhibition jointly, the engagement of the sponsor is with the full acknowledgement and mutual consent of the Artist and the Art Centre.
Criminal Code: The exhibition will consist of artworks agreed upon, and the Art Centre permits no deletions with our consent. The Art Centre can request the removal of scandalous, obscene or immoral work from the exhibition. If the Artist refuses permission, the Art Centre, has the right to cancel the exhibition without prejudice of penalty to the Art Centre.
The National Student Art Competition recognizes artistic excellence for students graduation from a Canadian University or College Fine Arts program in 2010 and 2011. We are pleased to provide an opportunity for emerging young artist to present their work in a professional gallery and to play a part in supporting a new generation of artists in Canada. First place winner will recieve an award of $1000 and a solo exhibition from May 14 to July 9, 2011. Two additional awards will be made to the 2nd and 3rd place and will recieve an award of $250 and a two person exhibition during May 14 to July 19, 2011.
Your submission package to the St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre should include:
1. Cover letter: Please tell us who you are, what you have been working on, what your career objectives are an an overview of your submission.
2. A Curriculum Vitae: This summary of your artistic career should include your address, telephone number, education, exhibition history (including
gallery names, dates and indication of your involvement in any show, juried, solo etc.), awards and scholarships, reviews and articles.
3. An Artist's Statement: This statement should expand on the ideas mentioned in your cover letter. Please describe the focus of your recent work and
what you hope to achieve. If you are proposing a particular project with a predetermined curatorial theme, outline this clearly.
4. Images: Include as many images as are needed to express the scope and range of your work (max. 20 images). The images should be labeled with
the artist's name, title of the work, media, the year of completion, and dimensions. Please include a separate image list that includes title, medium,
size and date of each work. Digital documentation is preferred.
5. Professor's Recommendations: Please submit recommendations from 2 different Professors.
6. Entry Fee: Enclose your submission fee of 20.00 (non-refundable). The cheque should be made payable to the St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre.
7. Submission Deadline: All submissions must be post marked by February 11, 2011. Notification to successful and unsuccessful applicants will be sent
by March 5, 2011. The successful applicant will be provided with an exhibition at the Art Centre from May 14 to July 9, 2011.
